The FSO plays a critical cultural role in our community bringing a high-standard of performance to the Wind River Mountain region. Our mission is to develop classical orchestral music appreciation through regular concerts, giving student and adult musicians in our community opportunities to perform.
The FSO was founded in the 1980’s with a small group of string players. Rebecca Murdock became the music director in 1987.
In the early 90’s, the group became a full symphonic orchestra. By the early 2000’s FSO gained non-profit status.
FSO hosts national soloists and regional professional musicians, in addition to offering local soloists and choirs performance opportunities with the orchestra.

Rebecca Murdock founded the FSO with local Fremont County string players in 1985. She took over the baton in 1988 and has been the Musical director since. Rebecca has a private studio string program, the Wyoming Suzuki String School, which has impacted hundreds of student musicians in the area for the past 35 years. She is also a professional cellist and orchestral musician. Ms. Murdock has performed as a student musician with the St. Paul Civic Symphony and the University of Wyoming Symphony (principal cellist). Professionally, she has performed with the Spokane Symphony, the Wyoming Symphony, and Powder River Symphony. Rebecca has been responsible for bringing many world class soloists as well as local professional soloists to perform with the FSO. As an adjunct faculty member of Central Wyoming College, she was awarded “Music Teacher of the Year” in 2000.
